Pakistan Power Sector Budget 2012 – 13

 

Let us put a highlight on the importance of electricity in the budget. In the Pakistan Federal Budget 2012 – 2013 of  Rs. 29655.0 million has been reserved for the electricity sector.

Apart from all that government has decided to give Rs.208.595million to fulfill some extra electricity requirements. On the basis of previous budget the amount of total electricity subsides was Rs.20.8595 but this year it has been increased to Rs.51.2292 in 2012-2013.

By considering all these circumstances the government has handed over Rs.13.497 to the WAPDA department to remove this year huge expenditure if 41.9 million on the subsides. Additionally, the government has also given Rs.50.317 billion to the Company Karachi Electric Supply in order to overcome the acute shortage of electricity in Karachi.12.5 percent of governments agriculture tube wells have been given four billion rupees.

As we know that electric power plays a very appropriate role for the industrial as well as agricultural sector. At the end on the whole the main attention should be focus on the area of development for the comprehensive energy pricing policy.

Therefore it is expected from the policy planners to adopt such steps which can triumph over the maximum deficiency of electricity which is severely affecting every aspect of our society and is becoming a huge danger for the success and welfare of the country’s development.
